It’s always a relief when a sequel you’ve been waiting for ages – in this case, decades – ends up being excellent. That was certainly the case with Danny Boyle’s 28 Years Later, released in June this year.

While the film is now available digitally, Boyle’s horror film will also be released in physical formats later in September. From 22nd September onwards, you can purchase 28 Years Later on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K.

28 Years Later follows on from Boyle’s 2002 horror film 28 Days Later and mostly ignores its sequel, 28 Weeks Later. The new film stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer and Ralph Fiennes as humans trying to survive in a world ravaged by the rage virus.

And here’s a synopsis if you missed the film itself in cinemas: Decades after the rage virus outbreak, survivors live in isolation. When one leaves his ruthlessly quarantined island sanctuary, he uncovers haunting secrets and mutations in both the infected and the remaining humans. From director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland comes a bold return to the world of 28 Days Later.

The listing doesn’t mention any special features, but perhaps some will be included. We’ll update this post if we hear anything.

The film’s sequel, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will hit cinemas 16th January 2026. The Bone Temple will be directed by Nia DaCosta, who already proved she’s very qualified in crafting impeccable horror scenes with Candyman.

The viral 28 Years Later website is now hinting that we’re getting the first trailer for The Bone Temple on 3rd September. If you input the password mementomori on the website, you’re met with a simple error message with the numbers 9.03.

We could be wrong about this, but we’re certainly due a trailer and we can’t wait to see what the franchise will bring us next, especially after that rather bonkers ending. We discussed that and much, much more in our 28 Years Later Spoiler Chat over on Youtube.
