Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Ariana Grande are in line to play the key three roles in the planned 9 To 5 remake.
We last heard an update on 20th Century Studiosā planned 9 To 5 remake last summer, with news that Juno writer Diablo Cody was coming on board to pen the script for the project which is set to be produced by Jennifer Aniston.
After trying to get the project up and running before, this time around Aniston looks to have found some momentum although the project isnāt officially greenlit yet, according to Life & Style (via Dark Horizons).
However, itās the three names that are reportedly in the frame that will raise eyebrows, because if the project can secure Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Ariana Grande, that will represent a huge coup. Itāll be one of this yearās starriest ensembles, not least because Aniston is set to also star in the project herself. It should also ensure the greenlight.
However, as the outlet rightly points out, the schedules of the three actors are rather full for the next 12 months (with Sweeney being linked to another project on the same day that this story has emerged). Apparently, the studio is keen to press ahead with this one so Aniston may be facing a difficult choice here: delay and wait for the cast she wants whilst risking the project losing its head of steamā¦ or press ahead, but potentially with different actors.
Getting a firm commitment from just one of that trio of stars would surely give 20th Century Studios the confidence to officially sign off on the project. While it may not be the 9 To 5 sequel we were promised at one point a few years ago with the original cast of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton, the potential new line-up of actors is an exciting prospect.
The original film was one of the earliest comedy breakout hits of the 1980s, following employees Violet, Judy, and Dora Lee having to deal with intolerable behaviour from their bigoted male boss before finding a way to turn the tables on him. Of course, the workplace has evolved in the last four and a half decades (er, clearly such behaviour is behind us), so weāre looking forward to seeing how Codyās script updates things. Weāll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
