2001ās A Knightās Tale, starring Heath Ledger, is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray for the first time. More on the release here.
Fairly recently on the Film Stories podcast (in this episode here), I dug into the story of 2001’s much-loved A Knight’s Tale. Directed by Brian Helgeland and with a cast led by the much-missed Heath Ledger, it’s a really entertaining blockbuster, that’s very much stood the test of time. Attempts to get a sequel off the ground have failed, but there’s now a stage musical, and – relevant to this story – the film is making its 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray debut.
Arriving in Steelbook form first, the movie has been scheduled for release on 19th May 2025. You can find the listing for it, and order yourself a copy, right here.
The previous DVD and Blu-ray releases of the film were generous when it came to extra features, and the hope is that at least those legacy supplements will be carried across. No confirmation on that at this stage, but that’s usually the drill.
Furthermore, while it’s the Steelbook that’s available now, it’s pretty certain that a regular priced 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray of A Knight’s Tale will follow at some point down the line. Either way, it’s a film that should look – and sound – the business on a good home cinema setup.
The disc is available for preorder now. For the minute, we’ll leave you with the synopsis for the movie…
After serving a number of years as a squire, an earnest young commoner poses as a knight and establishes himself in the jousting tournaments of Europe. He and a princess fall in love, but she is unaware of his deceit and common roots. The false knight is estranged from the princess once his true roots are revealed. He struggles to amend their relationship. 15th Anniversary synopsis: The 14th century takes a rocking new twist in A Knight’s Tale, a stylish, music driven, action packed adventure starring Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight, The Patriot), with heroic performances from Mark Addy (The Full Monty, Down to Earth) and Rufus Sewell (Dangerous Beauty, Dark City). Ledger plays William Thatcher, a peasant squire who breaks all the rules when he passes himself off as a nobleman and takes the jousting world by storm. The only thing that stands between William and his dream of becoming the World Champion of the extremest of sports is the bad boy of the sport Count Adhemar.
