Activision’s Crash Bandicoot revival has been going really well, and with the Spyro Reignited Trilogy heading our way before the year is out, Activision CEO Robert “Bobby” Kotick has been keen to reassure investors that the company is looking to resurrect more old IP for enthusiastic gamers in the future.
On a recent earnings call (via PCGamesN) Kotick told everyone that the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy sold “over ten million copies” and that the games “are obviously having a big impact on our bottom line and a real impact there, but I’d say what’s really important is that it’s reaffirming the enduring nature of these franchises for us.”
Kotick added that “when you look at our IP library, we think there’s a lot of IP in there the fans are going to want to experience again. So now what I’d say stay tuned for some future announcements”.
He also teased some new titles in the Crash and Spyro series, saying there’s “a lot of opportunities now to innovate and think about totally new content within these IPs. So as we think about it, there is a lot of growth opportunities for the business over time within Activision, based on our library of IP.”
There aren’t too many other essential franchises to choose from, realistically, but we’d imagine that the Tony Hawk games would do very well, especially on Switch, and it would be great to see Vigilante 8 back in some capacity, too. Any of this would be welcome news, but we’ll keep our expectations tempered until we find out how many microtransactions they plan to stuff in each release.
