Tim Miller is overseeing a new animated anthology series, Secret Level, from the creators of Love, Death And Robots. Hereā€™s the first trailer:

The line between films and video games continues to blur, as more and more film studios look to commission adaptations of popular (and sometimes obscure) videogame titles for film and television. Amazon Studios is the latest company to join the trend, announcing Secret Level, an anthology series that has been in the works for several years.

Spearheaded by Deadpool director Tim Miller, Secret Level will offer a series of episodic stories that cover a range of popular videogame titles. The show is said to be aimed at a mature audience and the animation looks incredible, but what else would you expect from one of the minds behind Love, Death & Robots?

The list of games that have been adapted for the opening series includes some heavy hitters: Armored Core, Concord, Crossfire, Dungeons & Dragons, Exodus, Honor of Kings, Mega Man, New World: Aeternum, Pac-Man, Sifu, Spelunky, The Outer Worlds, Unreal Tournament, and Warhammer 40,000.

Itā€™s certainly an eclectic list. Weā€™re happy to see Pac-Man finally getting some adaptation love, whilst the ageing mechanic that powered martial arts brawler Sifu is an inherently cinematic device that will translate perfectly to an episode of TV (which is probably why somebody else already had the idea of turning it into a film).

Thereā€™s also a PlayStation-centric episode in that first season, which looks like it will include both God Of War and possibly Ghost Of Tsushima, two other huge franchises that are both said to be getting the movie treatment at some point. Oh, and there were several shots of a character that looked suspiciously like Keanu Reeves, or was that just wishful thinking on our part? You decide.

The series drops on 10th December and was announced by Miller himself at Gamescom Opening Night Live. In a show that is always full of polished announcements, Miller had to fight to keep control of his emotions as he revealed the series, stating that he was so proud of it, keeping his feelings in check was difficult.

Seeing that depth of passion from a creator is pretty endearing. Hereā€™s the announcement trailer below.
