Andrew Scott will play the lead in Anthony Maras’ Pressure, based on David Haig’s play. More on the project below.
What a year for weather-related films. Twisters is now in cinemas and Pressure, which follows Britain’s chief meteorologist, about to deliver the most important weather report of his life. Fresh off an Emmy nomination for his work in Ripley, Andrew Scott has been announced as the lead in the film which will be directed by Anthony Maras.
Pressure is heading into production in the UK in September. The film is based on true events as it follows Scott’s character James Stagg in the three days leading up to D-Day. Maras has co-written the script with David Haig, based on Haig’s acclaimed play of the same name.
No news on who might join Scott in the film, but with production starting in just a couple of months, we’re sure those casting news will start trickling in soon.
Here’s the full synopsis:
In the seventy two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element—the British weather.
Britainās chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower.
With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.
StudioCanal, which is handling all international sales for the film, hasn’t given Pressure a release window yet, but we’ll make sure to keep you updated on that.
