Brendan Fraser will play Dwight D. Eisenhower in Anthony Maras’ D-Day thriller Pressure. More on the film below.
Just Friday, we brought you news that Andrew Scott had been tapped as the lead in Anthony Maras’ Pressure. Scott will play Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer, James Stagg, who will deliver Dwight D. Eisenhower the most important weather update in history.
Deadline now reports that Brendan Fraser will play Eisenhower in Pressure. The actor is coming off a recent Oscar win as Fraser was named Best Actor in 2023 for his performance in Darren Aronofsky’s hugely emotional The Whale. While Fraser will play him as the Supreme Allied Commander before D-Day, Eisenhower did go on to become the 34th U.S. President, serving from 1953-61.
Pressure is set to go into production this September in the UK. Maras has co-written the script with David Haig, based on Haig’s successful play of the same name.
Here’s the official synopsis: In the seventy two hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element—the British weather. Britainās chief meteorological officer James Stagg (Andrew Scott) is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.
No word yet on who might be playing Captain Kay Summersby, but expect news on it imminently as production begins.
