Bungie planning to have “other franchises within the marketplace” by 2025

Bungie releases Shadowkeep today, its paid expansion for Destiny 2, along with a free to play element for the central game, and it’s clear that the company has no plans to slow down or grow complacent now that it’s broken free of Activision.

In a new interview with IGN, CEO Pete Parsons has been chatting about Bungie’s 5 year(ish) plan, which will keep an eye on Destiny and also bring a new universe to the marketplace.

“Our vision ultimately through 2025 is to become one of the world’s best entertainment companies,” Parsons explained, after saying that the Activision split had allowed them to move forward more confidently than some would have expected. “You think this is going to be a really big stressor, but it’s become a really bright shining spot on our ability to bring products to the marketplace and customers.”

Parsons then outlined some of Bungie’s plans for the future.

“One, is we need to begin transforming Destiny,” he noted. “The Destiny that we really believe in, like, the thing we think Destiny needs to become. I think you’ve seen it in the vid doc, like, the single evolving world, we needed to focus on that. So, by 2025 we have a pretty specific path to make sure we transform Destiny and that we have other franchises within the marketplace.”

Parsons admits that “We need to build our publishing group, but part of our vision is also to become a multi-franchise entertainment company” and says “the long-term vision” is that they “have worlds like Destiny that are great places to go and build friendships in” but that they are about to begin “to introduce new worlds that people care a lot about.”

Though it’s exciting to think of what Bungie might produce in the near future that reaches for even some of Destiny’s scale, the company hasn’t made any more specific announcements yet, and it will likely be quite some time before they do.
