Amy Adams joins Javier Bardem in the Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese-produced TV remake of Cape Fear.

Amy Adams has joined the cast of the upcoming TV adaptation of Cape Fear, a project that just got a little bit more exciting with the news that another quality actor of is set to lead the production.

Adams joins Javier Bardem in ā€˜the story of two happily married attorneys, Anna Bowden and Tom Bowden, who face a growing storm when a notorious killer from their past named Max Cady gets out of prison.ā€™

Javier Bardem is taking on the role of Max Cady, last seen on screen played by Robert De Niro.

Thereā€™s no word as yet regarding who will play the role of Tom Bowden, but with Adams and Bardem occupying two of the filmā€™s lead roles, anticipation just went up a notch for the next casting announcement. As youā€™ll likely know, John D MacDonaldā€™s 1962 novel, The Executioners has aready spawned three classic takes on the material, a 1962 film featuring Gregory Peck, Robert Mitchum and Polly Bergen; a pulpy Martin Scorsese spin from 1991 starring Nick Nolte, Robert De Niro and Jessica Lange, and an episode of The Simpsons featuring well, The Simpson family (and Sideshow Bob of course).

One of the real draws here is the anticipation of Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese collaborating on a small screen project for the first time. Given the two names that have joined the acting ensemble thus far, it certainly seems to be an attractive proposition for movie stars looking to move into a prestige television series and should the casting continue in this style, this could well become the small screen version of Christopher Nolanā€™s The Odyssey with a cast for the ages. Whether that means a giant puppet will also be joining the cast remains to be seen.

While we donā€™t know a great deal about what will mark this latest take as a unique story, it looks like it will attempt to blend elements of popular entertainment that are both old and new, with a description at TV Line (via Dark Horizons) dubbing the show as a blend of “tense, Hitchcockian thriller” elements and an “examination of America’s 21st century obsession with true crimeā€ shows.

So far, so good then. As for Adams, we most recently saw her lead Nightbitch, while sheā€™s also set to appear this year in Taika Waititiā€™s android drama, Klara And The Sun. Thereā€™s no word yet regarding when Cape Fear will go before cameras, with the project currently still in pre-production. Still, Spielberg and Scorsese have already collaborated on one mesmerising take on this story, so weā€™re happy to wait, let them do their thing and enjoy this one when itā€™s good and ready.
