Cyberpunk sequel Flashback 2 has a new trailer, which shows off a jungle setting that will be immediately familiar to players of the first game.

After a short break of just 31 years, designer Paul Cuisset is back in cyberpunk territory with this yearā€™s Flashback 2. And just to underline just how much technology has changed since the 16-bit, Commodore Amiga days of the original Flashback, a new trailer makes a direct comparison between that gameā€™s environments and the sequelā€™s.

If youā€™ve ever played the first game, youā€™ll be familiar with the artificial jungle of Titan, Flashbackā€™s opening area ā€“ well, itā€™s back, but this time in glorious textured, polygonal form. The trailer shows how returning hero Conrad B Hart still has the same climbing, rolling and shooting skills as the first game, but what really stands out is just how 3D Flashback 2 actually is ā€“ the trailer shows several sections where the player can freely run in and out of the screen. Itā€™ll be interesting to see how this affects things like aiming and pulling off accurate jumps ā€“ though weā€™re guessing developer Microids will restrict these free-moving moments to specific areas in the game to avoid frustration.

Hereā€™s a synopsis, for those interested:

In the 22nd century, the United Worlds extends throughout the Solar System, but this tranquillity is threatened by the Morph invasion led by the fearsome General Lazarus. In search of his lifelong friend Ian, Conrad B. Hart dives once again into a breath taking adventure full of twists and turns and revelations with the help of his few allies, including A.I.S.H.A., his iconic AI-powered weapon!

Flashback 2 is due out in November 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.  There’ll also be a physical release available in two flavours: in a regular limited edition with a Steelbook case and digital soundtrack, or a collector’s edition, which comes with an 8-inch Conrad statue.
