The intense, early-1990s set indie thriller Game is getting a Q&A tour of UK cinemas from November. Here’s where you can see it:
It’s part survival thriller, part pitch black comedy – a sort of Misery for the era of The Prodigy, centre partings and beanie hats.
British indie nail-biter Game is set in the early 1990s, and sees petty criminal David (Marc Bessant) trapped in an up-turned Volkswagen Golf and menaced by an embittered poacher played by Jason Williamson (one half of political-punk music duo, Sleaford Mods).
It’s an assured feature debut from music video director John Minton – its imagery bursting with colour and the story’s tone shifting from humming tension to Stephen King-like horror to outright, kaleidoscopic madness.
A music connection runs right through the production, with its co-writer and producer being Geoff Barrow – co-founder of Portishead, regular Alex Garland score collaborator (he co-wrote the soundtracks for Ex Machina, Annihilation and more besides) and owner of Invada Records.
It’s little surprise, then, that Game is carried along by its score rather than reams of exposition – as such, it’s the sort of film well worth seeing and hearing in a cinema.
There’s good news on that front: having made its festival debut in October, Game is touring the UK with a number of Q&A screenings, with cast and crew in attendance.
