Cult fantasy series Grimm is being resurrected as a feature-length television film. If it’s a success, a sequel series could follow. Hurrah!

Reboots of much loved television shows are nothing new; in fact, they seem to be in vogue at the moment, with the likes of teen shows iCarly, Zoey 101 and The Thundermans all being produced in recent years, as well as dramas like Monk and the hit sitcom, Frasier.

Meanwhile, Grimm is the latest drama to get the reboot treatment.

According to Deadline, a feature length television film is in development at Peacock. If you’re not familiar, the show was a fantasy drama which followed Portland Homicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who discovers he is a Grimm, the latest in a line of guardians who are sworn to keep the balance between humanity and mythological creatures.

Premiering in 2011, the show also starred Russell Hornsby, Bitsie Tulloch, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee, Bree Turner and Claire Coffee. It has not yet been confirmed which (if any) of those original cast members will return.

The show gradually built up a dedicated following, and ended up running for six seasons, becoming one of the top rated shows on NBC. Unsurprisingly, the new film is said to appeal to both die hard fans of the original series and people who have never seen the show before.

Drop Dead Diva creator Josh Berman is writing the script, while original creators and showrunners David Greenwalt and Jim Kouf are on board as executive producers. Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner’s Hazy Mills Productions and Universal Television are producing the film. The film will act as a pilot, and if it is successful then it could launch a sequel series.

A year after Grimm ended its original run in 2016, NBC began to develop a spinoff series centered on a female Grimm from writer Melissa Glenn, but the project never came to fruition.

You can watch all six seasons of Grimm on Sky Max.
