Come and see the terrific I Swear in Birmingham tonight (3rd October) featuring an in-person Q&A with director Kirk Jones.

Tonight (the 3rd October), in our latest non-London movie event, we’re thrilled to be bringing the film I Swear to Birmingham. We’re putting on a special preview screening of the movie a week ahead of its cinema release. What’s more, we’re happy to confirm too that we’re going to be joined by its writer and director, Kirk Jones.

Jones, who also has Waking Ned and Nanny McPhee to his name, will be joining me for an in-person Q&A immediately after the screening.

It takes place this Friday, at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham. We’re going to be starting the film at 7.30pm, and then afterwards, bringing Kirk on stage. You can find my review of the film down at the bottom of this post.

Tickets are available now from the Midlands Arts Centre directly, and you can find the link to buy them right here.

Here’s a synopsis for the film…

Funny, heartfelt and emphatically moving, I Swear dramatises the true story of Tourette syndrome campaigner John Davidson and his quest to live normally in a world that insisted on calling him different.

Diagnosed aged 15, John’s Tourette’s made him the target of huge misunderstanding in 1980s Britain, and he faced hostility, bullying and occasionally outright violence for much of his youth. Aged 16, he was the subject of BBC TV documentary John’s Not Mad and subsequently became one of the UK’s most passionate advocates for greater awareness and acceptance of Tourette’s.

Written and directed by Kirk Jones (Waking Ned, Nanny McPhee) and featuring a deeply committed performance from Robert Aramayo as John alongside supporting turns from Maxine Peake, Shirley Henderson and Peter Mullan, I Swear promises a powerful look at an astonishing life.

And finally, to whet your appetite, a review of it too…
