Warning! Spoilers for the first Insidious film.

Another long-running horror franchise started by James Wan is eyeing up a comeback following The Conjuring: Last Rites’ success.

Insidious: The Red Door drew mixed-to-negative reviews in 2023, but made a decent amount of cash for Blumhouse. That fifth instalment in the Insidious franchise somehow managed to overtake Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny in its second weekend and was one of biggest surprises of the year, at least in terms of profit margin.

Naturally, Blumhouse immediately made plans for Insidious 6, but there has been little movement on the film – at least until now.

Deadline has the scoop that franchise regular Lin Shaye will return, joined by Amelia Eve. Jacob Chase and David Leslie Johnson have written the script, with Chase also directing.

Cameras are due to start rolling in Australia next week, and Insidious 6 will hit cinemas on 21st August 2026 if all goes well.

Shaye played Elise Rainier in the franchise, and without spoiling things, her involvement in Insidious 6 might imply that we’re looking at another prequel, following Insidious: Chapter 3 and Insidious: The Last Key. Shaye has also appeared in flashbacks and video footage elsewhere in the series, so it is possible that the Insidious 6 is still set in the current timeline, but that seems unlikely.

The Red Door notably brought together the original cast of Patrick Wilson, Rose Byrne and Ty Simpkins as the Lambert family, as well as Angus Sampson and Leigh Whannell as Tucker and Specs. Their involvement hasn’t been announced, but with Wilson wrapping things up with The Conjuring franchise, who knows?

We’ll bring you more Insidious related news as we hear it.
