Itās taking a long time to get a new James Bond film made ā but Amazon MGM is not rocking the boat with Eon at the moment.
James Bond day came and went this year, as it has the last few years, without a whisper as to the future of 007 on the big screen. Since the release of No Time To Die, Daniel Craig’s swansong that was shooting five years ago, Eon Productions has offered little sign of what the new Bond film will be, and who will be playing 007.
But then part-stakeholders now in the James Bond movie series is Amazon, who bought up MGM a few years back. Amaazon MGM studios now has a global head, Jennifer Salke, and she’s been asked about, well, where the hell 007 has got to?
Talking to The Guardian, she confirmed what most of us had assumed, that it’s taking its lead from Eon – and producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson – on the future of Bond. “I think there are a lot of different ways we can go. We have a good and close relationship with Eon and Barbara and Michael. We are not looking to disrupt the way those wonderful films are made. For us, we are taking their lead”, she confirmed.
Itās easy to read too much into an interview when we weren’t in the room, but there is a sentence a little further into the chat that suggests Amazon’s patience is finite. “The global audience will be patient”, she said. “We don’t want too much time between films, but we are not concerned at this point.”
At this point. Interesting.
In the same piece, she didn’t shut down the fact that a TV series had been discussed too, although it’d be a surprise if a script James Bond show happened. Eon has always put its emphasis on the big screen, and resisted attempts to put Bond anywhere but.
We still wait, then. More news as always as we hear it. But no signs yet…
