Celyn Jones has started filming Madfabulous in Wales, as the cast for his latest movie as director gets filled out. More here.
Earlier this year, a man best known for his acting and screenwriting – Celyn Jones – shifted into the director’s chair for the first time with the movie The Almond & The Seahorse (pictured). Actually, already, that’s not quite true. He shot that movie originally with co-director Tom Stern a couple of years back, then overhauled it in post-production. Co-starring with Rebel Wilson, the film notched up solid notices on its UK release.
Around the time of its release, Celyn Jones was talking about his next project as director, that was pretty much ready to go. That’d be Madfabulous, that he confirmed to Film Stories is now up and running in Wales.
The film is set in the 19th century, and it tells the story of the fifth Marquess of Anglesey. It’s something of a Brewster’s Millions story, with Callum Scott Howells cast in the lead role some months ago. This week though, with the start of production, we’ve got the news that Ruby Stokes and Rupert Everett are high profile new additions to the independent film.
The cast also features Louise Brealey (who we’ve just seen in the brilliant Chuck Chuck Baby), Paul Rhys and Tom Rhys-Harries.
Filming is taking place in the Anglesey area, with the production company of which Celyn Jones is a co-founder – Mad As Birds – overseeing the movie.
Lisa Baker – also from the same area – has written the screenplay for the film. Nadia Jaynes and Sean Marley are producing. The shoot should be wrapped up by the autumn, and we’d imagine that we may be able to feast our eyes on Madfabulous at some point in 2025.
We’ll, of course, keep you posted as we hear more. More British independent movies of this ilk please. And donāt forget too that Celyn Jones is working on the Grange Hill movieā¦
