Marvel’s troubled Blade reboot – which has been in limbo for years now – may finally have a script, a director and a shoot date.
While Marvel Studios is having a fair old crack at pulling itself out of the creative and commercial malaise that has set in over the last couple of years, one project that keeps dominating the headlines and reminding us of the studio’s rocky fortunes is Blade, the announced title that will feature Mahershala Ali as the MCU’s premier vampire hunter.
Blade’s path to production has been something of a mess, with the project already burning through two directors (Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange) and around six writers, including Michael Green, Stacy Osei-Kuffour, Michael Starrbury, Beau DeMayo and Nic Pizzolatto. Getting that many writers to take a crack at a script isn’t that unusual, but having so much of this process played out in public – coupled with Marvel’s woes of late – has created the perception that Blade is a project in trouble.

Some good news may finally be on the way, however. According to World Of Reel, Blade may finally have found its director, along with a script that everybody is happy with. According to the outlet, Jeymes Samuel, director of The Harder They Fall and The Book Of Clarence has impressed MCU boss, Kevin Feige, and is in line to lead the project. Also, Eric Pearson (the latest writer to have a go at a Blade script) has reportedly delivered a story that everybody is happy with.
Does that mean the film might still make the November shoot date? According to Disney’s release slate, the film is due out in November 2025, which would mean some serious fast-tracking, but it’s not impossible to conceive of the film still making that release window.
While some actors on the project such as Aaron Pierre and Delroy Lindo have exited due to the delays, the film still has its main two stars in the form of Ali and Mia Goth. If things do happen with Blade, we’d expect to hear in pretty short order. Stay tuned and we’ll let you know more when we hear it.
