Paul Walter Hauser has joined the already-stacked cast of Marvel’s upcoming superhero romp The Fantastic Four.

The casting news for Marvel’s The Fantastic Four just keep coming in. We recently learned that Julia Garner would be playing Silver Surfer, one of Fantastic Four’s most notorious villains, in the new film adaptation.

Now, word comes via Variety that Paul Walter Hauser is also joining the film. Unfortunately, that’s all we know at the moment; Marvel is keeping his role secret for now. Hauser has previously appeared in Clint Eastwood’s Richard Jewell and AppleTV+’s excellent Blackbird  with Taron Egerton.

Hauser is joining an all-star cast that includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards (aka Mr Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm (the Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm (the Human Torch) and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Ben Grimm (the Thing).

Fantastic Four are also known as Marvel’s First Family and it remains to be seen if Marvel can pull this one off. Previous attempts to bring the family to the screen have been, shall we say, less than perfect. Josh Trank’s 2015 Fantastic Four, starring Miles Teller and Michael B Jordan, was the lowest grossing Fantastic Four film to date and critics largely panned it.

Things are looking up, though. Quinn recently said that the team wanted “to get this right”.

“There are aspects of it that are very different to other Marvel films. That felt very compelling to me. Again, going back to who’s involved, Matt, of course, the director, I think is brilliant, and the cast, and I’ve read it and the script is brilliant. It’s really brilliant. I’m delighted to have this opportunity,” Quinn told Variety in April.

“Superhero movies are movies about people, and if we’re invested in the people and the characters and the peril and the spectacle, then that’s why people go to the theatres to watch films. We’re not just in a penny; we’re in for a pound with this one. We’re going to go for it.”

We certainly hope The Fantastic Four, which will be directed by Matt Shakman, will do justice to the characters. We’ll find that out in summer 2025 when the film is released
