Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis has been confirmed for UK release in September, same day as the US release.
We already knew Francis Ford Coppola’s Megalopolis was heading to US cinemas this September, but a UK release date has finally been confirmed.
Entertainment Film Distributors will bring Megalopolis to UK screens on 27th September, the same day as the film is released in the US. The film will also be available in IMAX.
The film’s all-star cast includes Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and Dustin Hoffman to name a few. The film recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews.
Megalopolis reportedly cost $120m to make and now, Metro reports that Coppola is also set to eat all the marketing costs. The film was previously labelled as unmarketable with one unnamed distributor telling The Hollywood Reporter that “There is just no way to position this movie.”
Coppola has also come under fire after allegations of inappropriate behaviour on set. The director has denied the allegations.
Here’s the film’s synopsis: MEGALOPOLIS is a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Adam Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Giancarlo Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Nathalie Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.
You can catch Megalopolis in UK and Irish cinemas from 27th September.
