Dude, This Is The Apex

Respawn isn’t planning a sequel to popular Battle Royale game Apex Legends any time soon. Or ever, it seems.

“Most people don’t realise how long it takes to make anything, and so a character for us takes about a year and a half to make,” executive producer Drew McCoy told USgamer. “So we’ve been playing Wattson since early last year, but we have so much stuff in the pipe right now coming that people are always like, ‘So what are you guys gonna do for this or that?’ Like dude, we’re thinking years ahead at this point.”

Later in the interview, McCoy doubled down on plans to keep plugging away on Apex Legends:

“We’re never gonna make an Apex 2; hoping next Season 72 is awesome. That’s kind of where our head is at: how are we setting this up for the long term.”

Alpha Feta

PC spy game Alpha Protocol is no longer available for purchase on Steam because the publishing rights have expired.

“Following the expiry of Sega’s publishing rights for Alpha Protocol, the title has been removed from Steam and is no longer on sale,” a Sega spokesperson told PC Gamer.

If you’ve already bought it, you can still download a copy, but no new purchases are allowed.

RAD AF

What are you doing right now? Clockwatching? Bunking off? Would you like to watch 19 minutes of gameplay for Double Fine’s roguelike, RAD? Be our guest…

Supermassive Games’ Dark Pictures Anthology: Man Of Medan now has an ESRB rating. Some hightlights for you:

A corpse’s body getting eaten by rats
Blood-splatter effects
Innuendo and suggestive material in dialogue
Drug references
Swears

Sounds good, yeah. 30th August, be there or be square!

Cybarian Grill

Cyberpunk platfomer beat ’em up Cybarian: The Time Travelling Warrior is coming to Switch on Friday, and luckily we don’t have to decide whether to get this or My Friend Pedro, because this will be even more dirt cheap.

Have a look and see whether you’re up for it, too…

Actually, It’s About Ethics In Kinder Eggs

You have to lol. In a sesh (not THE sesh) with UK Parliament’s Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport Committee, Kerry Hopkins – currently EA’s VP of legal and government affairs – has described loot boxes as “surprise mechanics” and compared them to those blind bag toys you get in Smyths, and Kinder Eggs.

“We do think the way that we have implemented these kinds of mechanics – and FIFA of course is our big one, our FIFA Ultimate Team and our packs – is actually quite ethical and quite fun, quite enjoyable to people.”

Mmmmm! Ethical and fun.

Plat Don’t Impress Him Much

Platinum Games’ studio head Atsushi Inaba doesn’t think much of forthcoming consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

“It’s OK. And by that I mean, I’m sure that things will move faster, graphics will be better and maybe it will be easier with less wait times… that’s good for the consumer,” said Inaba. “But it’s more of the same, quite frankly, compared to previous generations. It’s nothing that’s disruptive or super innovative, if you ask me.”

Platinum Games is in the midst of developing Bayonetta 3 for Switch at present. Make of that what you will.
