Alien: Earth isn’t even finished yet, but creator Noah Hawley already knows where the show will go in season 2 if one is officially greenlit.

Alien: Earth has reached episode 6 – spoiler-free review here! – and things are getting tense. With only two more episodes to go, we’re relatively sure we’re heading towards a pretty explosive showdown between mega-corps Prodigy and Weyland-Yutani. There’s also the looming threat of the Xenomorphs, and no conflict has ever been de-escalated by acid-bleeding aliens.

While season 2 hasn’t been officially greenlit, all signs point to the series continuing. Alien: Earth has been very warmly received by audiences and critics. Creator and showrunner Noah Hawley recently spoke with Evolution Of Horror (here via Collider) and admitted he has an idea of where Alien: Earth season 2 could go.

“I mean, I think that I have a destination in mind story-wise, which allows me to know what the story is I’m telling, what it means,” Hawley teased.

“And I don’t know how long it takes to get there, but I do have a sense of where we go in success. And you know, the question becomes: how streamlined can we make the process so that you’re not waiting for three, or four, or five years for more?” the showrunner continued.

Time is an issue that plagues most big profile TV shows right now. The Last Of Us season 2 ended on a tense note earlier this year, but it’s looking like we’ll have to wait several years to find out how Ellie and Abby’s story proceeds. At least, if Hawley has an idea where things are going, things will move slightly faster.

Hawley’s update on season 2 is great news for Alien fans, but terrible news for those waiting for Fargo season 6. Hawley’s anthology series, inspired and loosely based on the 1996 film of the same name, was also very popular and its creator has previously admitted to having more ideas for another season, but his focus on Alien: Earth will certainly keep him away from the American Midwest for quite some time still.

New episodes of Alien: Earth premiere on Disney+ every Wednesday in the UK.
