Directed by Milos Forman and starring Jack Nicholson, the adaptation of Ken Kesey’s book took home the five main Oscars at the Academy Awards (including Louise Fletcher taking home a very well deserved Best Actress prize) and remains a genuine cinema classic. Not much I can add to that: it’s a bloody masterpiece.
It’s also a film that most people, I’d suggest, have watched at home now rather than on a cinema screen (first time I saw it, they showed it us at school, and wheeled in the big telly especially. If you know, you know.)
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film then, Warner Bros is issuing the film for the first time on the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. It was rumoured earlier in the year, and now it’s confirmed.
Set for release then on 10th November 2025 in the UK, it’s also arriving with a bunch of extra features included, that are carried across from previous releases of the film. Still, better to have them than not.

Here’s the synopsis for the film…
Milos Forman’s acclaimed adaptation of the Ken Kesey novel. After being imprisoned for statutory rape, an unrepentant Randle Patrick McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) is transferred to a state mental hospital where he must serve out the remainder of his sentence. Here he sets about leading his fellow inmates in a revolt against the cold and inflexible Nurse Ratched (Louise Fletcher) and the hospital’s systematic oppression of its patients. The film won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor (Nicholson) and Best Actress (Fletcher).
