Jerry Bruckheimer is planning a sixth Pirates Of The Caribbean movie and the producer thinks Johnny Depp could still return.

The rum might be gone, but Pirates Of The Caribbean might still be alive and kicking. As detailed by EW, producer Jerry Bruckheimer hasn’t given up on Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 with a script being written as we speak.

Bruckheimer is also hopeful that the film could bring back Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. According to the producer, there’s a strong possibility of that, too.

“If he likes the way the part’s written, I think he would do it,” Bruckheimer told EW. “It’s all about what’s on the page, as we all know.”

In this case, it might be about a little more than the script. Disney cut all ties with Depp in 2018 after the actor’s legal troubles involving his ex-wife Amber Heard. After the highly publicised trial, Depp has mostly worked on smaller projects outside of Hollywood. Mads Mikkelsen was brought in to replace Depp as Gellert Grindewald for 2022’s Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets Of Dumbledore after Warner Bros. wanted to move ahead without Depp.

But things look like they’re reversing.

Previously, Disney distanced itself from is Gina Carano, who appeared as Cara Dune in The Mandalorian. The actress accused the studio of firing her for expressing her political views. Carano made a now-deleted social media post in which she compared being a Republican today to being Jewish under Nazi rule.

However, news broke this week that Disney had quietly settled its lawsuit with Carano. No details were released, but in another social media post, Carano thanked Elon Musk for funding her legal costs. Bottom line: differences between Disney and Carano have been sort-of-sorted. Might the same be true for Depp?

The sixth Pirates film was originally imagined as a reboot to bring the franchise back, seemingly without Johnny Depp. Bruckheimer’s comments now cast doubt on whether that’ll happen if Depp is brought back as Captain Jack. “We are still working on a screenplay,” the producer said. “We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven’t quite gotten there yet, but we’re close.”

We’ll keep you updated. But Depp appears to at least be back in the conversation.
