Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans set out to save Santa in Red One. The second trailer can be viewed within.
Update: A second trailer for the Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans-starring festive action film Red One has emerged. The pair star as bounty hunters on a mission to rescue a kidnapped Santa Claus, with the latter played by JK Simmons. Jake Kasdan, of Jumanji reboot fame, directs.
Hereās the second trailer for Red One, due in US cinemas on the 15th November. It has a CGI polar bear in it, among other visual effects.
Our original story followsā¦
26th June 2024: Santa Claus has been kidnapped. Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans have to fight their way across the world to save him.
Itās the kind of elevator pitch that makes you wonder how it took this long for the film to appear. Not to be confused with Red Notice, the Netflix action film in which Johnson starred in 2021, the synopsis for Red One reads as follows:
After the shocking abduction of Santa Claus (JK Simmons) from the North Pole, the Commander of the E.L.F. Task Force (Dwayne Johnson) must partner with the worldās most infamous bounty hunter (Chris Evans) to save Christmas.
JK Simmons as Santa Claus might just be the best casting decision since David Harbour donned the red coat to batter some bad guys in 2022ās fun festive action film Violent Night ā which, incidentally, makes perhaps the best use of a Bryan Adams song in a film since Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Simmons also voiced Santa in Sergio Pablosā terrific 2019 animated film Klaus, which is available to stream on Netflix.
The cast also includes Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll and Wesley Kimmel.
Red One reunites Johnson with Jumanji director Jake Kasdan. The film is based on a original story by Seven Bucks Productions’ President of Production Hiram Garcia, which Amazon landed after a competitive bidding war and went on to develop. Long time Fast And Furious writer Chris Morgan penned the screenplay.
Red One was originally going to be released on Prime Video in December 2023 before being delayed. It will now be released in US cinemas on the 15th November. The exact UK date hasnāt been confirmed, but we will also be getting it in November, weāll keep you updated as we hear more.
This was also the film where, er, ācommentsā about Dwayne Johnsonās working practices sprung to life, incidentally.
