The late Rutger Hauerā€™s life is to be explored in the new documentary Like Tears In Rain. More details on its UK release here as well.

It’s hard to believe, but it’s been nearly six years since the world lost Rutger Hauer. The enigmatic actor died at the age of 75, leaving behind a film career of nearly 200 films. Blade Runner grabbed a lot of the headlines, but what about Solider Of Orange and Spetters with Paul Verhoeven, genre joys Surviving The Game, The Hitcher and Split Second, or his later blockbusters, Sin City and The Dark Knight. He happily sold you Guinness, too.

But still, here’s an actor whose behind the scenes story stayed pretty much that throughout his life. The curtain is now being pulled back a little courtesy of a new documentary feature Like Tears In Rain. Wonder where they got that name from.

It’s directed by his goddaughter, Sanna Fabery de Jonge, and she’s been able to access Rutger Hauer’s personal archive to bring a different side of the man to the screen. As per the announcement of the documentary, ‘Hauer documented his entire life on film, resulting in countless videos shot in Friesland, on his boat and in his campervan, as well as behind-the-scenes on movie sets, where we witness his unconditional love for his wife Ineke and his friends’.

Faces you can expect to see in the film include Paul Verhoeven, Robert Rodriguez, Whoopi Goldberg, Vincent D’Onofrio, Mickey Rourke and Miranda Richardson. Running to 80 minutes, we’ve not seen it yet, but it sounds fascinating.

In terms of UK release details, it’s going to arrive on Viaplay, with is now available over here as an add-on channel for Amazon Prime Video. The film itself is set to go live on the service on Monday 10th March.

You can find more on what Viaplay is up to here. Here’s a picture of Rutger Hauer on a boat to finish this story off (from the documentary).
