Neve Campbell is confirmed for Scream 7, that’s now going to be in cinemas in February 2026. More here.

Following the release of Scream VI in March of 2023, it seemed like the overall franchise was back on its rails. The directing team of Radio Silence had put together another hit, and the cast were expected to return for Scream 7, which should have begun filming later that year.

Still, strike action in Hollywood put paid to that. But so did a series of self-inflicted wounds. Neve Campbell had already bailed from the series over a low pay offer for Scream VI, and then Melissa Barrera was fired from the film over her social media posts supporting Palestine.

Christopher Landon by this stage had joined as director, but left shortly afterwards, as the film required significant reworking to get around the loss of one of its lead characters. When Landon then walked too, what should have been a straightforward sequel to get moving found itself stalled.

The emergency plan? Get the original writer of the first two Scream films back, and give him the director’s chair. That’d be Kevin Williamson. Then build bridges with Neve Campbell and get her back. Mission completed there too. And while the resultant Scream 7 is likely to be a very different beast from whatever was originally planned, it’s now officially a thing again.

Paramount Pictures will release the film in cinemas on 27th February 2026, it’s now been announced. That’s pretty much three years since the last chapter landed, so don’t be surprised to see a sort of mini-reboot. Kevin Williamson isn’t just directing, incidentally, he’s also penning the script.

To our knowledge, the only member of the cast who’s confirmed so far is Campbell herself. There’s a bit of time before filming needs to get underway, so it might be a little while before we discover the rest of the ensemble. But still: it’s all moving again. More as we hear it.
