Sega Mega Drive Mini release delayed

The Mega Drive Mini is facing a two week release delay in Europe due to ā€œunavoidable logistical challenges.ā€

Sega announced the news this week, along with its apologies for the fortnight-long wait. The Mini will now arrive on 4th October.

ā€œWe are committed to a successful launch for consumers in all territories, and this step will ensure we can meet demand and fulfil all the individual pre-orders and retail orders in Europe and the Middle East at the same time,ā€ said Sega in a statement about the release date shunt. ā€œCustomers in those regions are still able to preorder from participating retailers and those who have already preordered will only have to wait an extra two weeks for their little box full of retro magic.ā€

The Mega Drive Mini comes complete with 42 titles. Sonic The Hedgehog is, naturally, onboard (minus his creepy new human teeth) and punters will also be treated to the likes of Ecco The Dolphin and Earthworm Jim, all for the fairly reasonable price of £69.99.

You can preorder one here, if you want.

In truth, Mega Drive fans are less concerned with the delayed release and more concerned with the fact that Sega is bundling 3 button pads in with a mini console package that includes a fair amount of six button games, bemoaning that Sega are providing controllers with too many buttons for half the games, and too few for the other half.

They make a fair point.
