A new British horror film, set in a rural police station, is about to go into production. Here are some early details about Sticks & Stones:

London-based studio Disauthority is gearing up for the production of its first feature film, a supernatural horror titled Sticks & Stones.ย

The feature will be written and directed by Lily Howkins, also making her feature debut as a director.

Disauthority has also unveiled the cast. Sticks & Stones will be led by Freya Hannan-Mills, who’s in Oscar-winner Chloe Zhaoโ€™s Hamnet. Sheโ€™ll be joined by Anna Burnett, Tristan Sturrock and Louis Martin in what sounds like a claustrophobic horror ride.ย

Hereโ€™s what Sticks & Stones is about:

Set in late-1990s rural Britain, the horror follows a teenager accused of murder who maintains her innocence. Trapped in a remote police station during a violent storm, an ambitious policewoman must determine whether there is evidence for conviction or if there is a vengeful supernatural force at play.ย

Inspired by endless accounts of womenโ€™s testimony being ignored or disbelieved, the film examines how institutions respond to stories that defy explanation and the devastating consequences.

The film is the debut feature of the studioโ€™s new production arm. Disauthority has been making a name in the post-production game for some time now, and Sticks & Stones follows their earlier short, Homonym.ย

Colour us intrigued. Filming is due to start in Croydon this November, where the company is based.ย

โ€œThis is the perfect debut for Disauthority Originals,” said Marcus Hundsnes, Managing Director of Disauthority. “Artist-led, ambitious, and exactly the kind of powerful genre-driven story we love. Led by visionary women such as Maria Shevtsova, our VP and Head of Originals, and director, Lily, this film embodies the purpose of Disauthority Originals, to champion bold, unique voices. Weโ€™re redefining what independent filmmaking looks like, merging the obsession of post with the energy of production.”
