Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphil have taken their Still Game characters to the page, and here are the details.

In 1997, writers and actors Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill wrote and starred in Still Game, a live show revolving around pensioners Jack and Victor. They reprised the roles in sketch show Chewinā€™ The Fat before launching Still Game as a sitcom in 2002. It ran for nine series and 62 episodes until 2019. A farewell live show sold out Glasgow’s SSE Hydro for three nights.

Kiernan and Hemphill have teamed up with editor Gordon Tait to bring Jack and Victor to the page in their own comic book called He Who Hingith Aboot Getteth Hee Haw.

The synopsis reads as follows:

Jack and Victor are no ordinary oldies. They’re seniors wi’ sass, pensioners wi’ punch and stars of their very own award-winning show, Still Game. For nine side-splitting seasons the life-long pals have been gie’in the Young Team laldy and showing everyone how to grow old disgracefully. So when a’body else is busy taking comic characters to cinema screens, Jack and Victor continue doing it differently, instead translating their stage and telly box antics to the printed page.

Full of their trademark banter and the Craiglang gang you know and love, book one FEATURES SiX stories for your entertainment and amusement. Settle doon wi’ a wee tea and sconEo and prepare to enjoy this beltin’ new comic companion to your favourite, iconic Scottish comedy.

Hemphill said ā€œWhen Ford and I were blethering away about what other areas we could explore with [Jack and Victor], it occurred to us that weā€™d never really seen them in cartoon form.  Weā€™ve seen them on mugs and things like that, but weā€™ve never explored it as an art form and and thatā€™s when Gordon came in, and you can see the results. Itā€™s super excitingā€.

Kiernan added ā€œGordonā€™s the guy that takes what youā€™re talking about and turns everything in to something just fantastic. He takes it out of your head and turns into something wonderful. And thatā€™s what itā€™s turned out to be. Itā€™s a strange concept to be in an annual after all these years of reading them. It was an eye opening thing. I didnā€™t realise it was quite as complicated as thisā€.

He Who Hingith Aboot Getteth Hee Haw will be released on the 16th September. You can pre-order from publishers Scunnered Ink here.
