Joe Thomas has been chatting about a potential The Inbetweeners reunion and his thoughts on possible plot lines.

Is there another TV series as influential and seminal to the teenage experience as The Inbetweeners? Running for three seasons from 2008 to 2010, the series encapsulated just what’s like to be a (horny) teenage boy in England.

The series spawned two film sequels, but we haven’t enjoyed the company of Will, Simon, Neil and Jay since 2014.

Speaking to the Always Be Comedy podcast (picked up by Deadline), Joe Thomas, who played Simon in the series, did voice his hopes for another big screen reunion.

“We’re all still around, we’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it,” the actor said, and added that a movie was more suitable for another chapter in The Inbetweeners story.

“It would be challenging to do another series, just because of the timeline. But with the film, there are all sorts of options.”

Thomas also mused that there’s something special about a film compared to a sitcom.

“A film can be a special occasion. A film is about a disruption to normality, whereas the sitcom is about what normality is like. A film is a story with an ending. Whereas a sitcom is more like going down the pub with a friend who’s funny, and it’s just open-ended,” he told hosts James Gill and Tim Lewis.

The actor seemed to already have an idea for the setting of another The Inbetweeners movie: Las Vegas. More specifically, a stag do in Las Vegas.

“It would need to be about blokes, I think,” Thomas said. “And there’s something about the adult world and how much more complicated it is than the world of adolescence.”

To be clear, no new The Inbetweeners film has been announced and this might all just be wishful thinking on Thomas’ part. If a film does materialise, we’ll be sure to let you know.
