Media Molecule’s Dreams for PS4, aka ‘the gift that keeps on giving’, has produced yet another winner. The Overlook Hotel has just been lovingly recreated in Dreams by Quorra__ISO and dave138.
You can take a trip to the disturbing locale from Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining and have a (largely) scare-free journey, casually dropping by the place where Jack Torrance – and others before him – lost their minds. Stephen King might not be a fan of the late Kubrick’s 1980 adaptation of his classic tome but, like it or not, the film has been referenced squillions of times across pretty much every kind of media you can think of.
Rather than fully remake scenes from the film, this Dreams version of The Overlook Hotel just gives you glimpses of the horrors you’d expect to encounter, but somehow that makes it even more unnerving.
It’s not the first time that Dreams has played host to some Shining tributes. The iconic scene of little Danny meeting the twins has also done the rounds this year:
At least the Dreams vibe takes a little of the nightmare edge off, there? A little.
