id Software studio director Tim Willits surprised a lot of people last month by announcing that he was leaving the company after 24 years of hard work on titles like Doom 3 and Rage, but he didnā€™t take much of a break ā€“ heā€™s now confirmed his new role as chief creative officer at Saber Interactive.

Willits apparently started work at the World War Z dev at the start of August.

Willits has also decided to share his reasons for moving to Saber with Fortune.

ā€œBeing with a studio for 24 years, itā€™s really hard to leave,ā€ he said. ā€œItā€™s almost like a marriage, for lack of a better descriptionā€¦. (But) I saw how Saber, as a team, was starting to grow and expand and pick up teams and studios. It was a good time to move over.ā€

He later added ā€œAt my age, youā€™ve got to work with people you like. Youā€™ve got to work on fun stuff. I donā€™t have anything to prove. Iā€™ve been successful. Iā€™ve made good gamesā€¦ At the end of the day, Iā€™m literally going to travel around the world to cool as places to work with awesome teams and make video games.ā€

Founded back in 2001, Saber is currently in the midst of opening up its future slate, as itā€™ll hopefully be done with Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and the Switch port of The Witcher 3: Complete Edition by the end of this year. No doubt Willits will have a lot of input on what 2020 will bring.
