Torchlight: Infinite, a free-to-play take on the old dungeon crawler, is getting its full launch next month.

Torchlight: Infinite is set to emerge from open beta on 9th May on PC and mobile. This is the first game in the series to be developed by Shanghai-based XD Games, a specialist in free to play titles.

The original Torchlight was released by American studio Runic Games back in 2009, and received glowing praise for its hack and slash dungeon-crawling gameplay. Runic was bought by Chinese publisher Perfect World in 2010, and released a well-received sequel to Torchlight in 2012. But the studio was shuttered by its owner in 2017, with Perfect World stating that the closure was part of its “continued strategy to focus on online games as a service“. Torchlight III was developed by San Francisco studio Echtra Games and published by Perfect World in 2020, but received mixed reviews.

Torchlight: Infinite is the first game in the series to adopt a free-to-play formula. The title has been in open beta since late 2022, and two seasons have already been released, but the full game launch will coincide with the release of a new season: Cube of Rapacity. This will involve looting cubes from defeated monsters, which have a chance to reveal Divinity Slates, puzzle pieces that can be slotted together to earn rewards.

The Early Access version of Torchlight: Infinite has been gathering Mostly Positive reviews at the time of writing, and the game allows for cross-play between PC and mobile.
