Twitch buys IGDB

Twitch has nabbed the Internet Games Database, acquiring the company and its smorgasbord of games info as a means to improve the streaming serviceā€™s search functionality. Using the database will for sure be a big leap from Twitchā€™s current reliance on Giant Bomb.

ā€œWe are very excited to announce the next chapter of our story: IGDB has joined the Twitch family!ā€ IGDBā€™s owner, Jerome Richer De Forges, announced on Medium. ā€œMillions of people visit Twitch every day to connect with their favourite streamers and communities. This opportunity takes IGDB to a whole new level, giving us the opportunity to be an even bigger part of your gaming life.ā€

He also added that ā€œThe (IGDB) API is here to stayā€ assuring users that they are ā€œmergingā€ their premium and free tiers into a single new free tier, and that ā€œgoing forward, that means that you will now contribute information to Twitch as well as IGDB and the thousands of apps, services, and websites that are powered by this information. We’re also taking this opportunity to clean up some features and migrate infrastructure in order to make room for new and improved tools. Your support has always been our biggest source of inspiration, and we’re so excited for what’s ahead.ā€

Okay, then.
