The V/H/S franchise returns with another spooky entry, this time with a sci-fi twist. Hereā€™s the V/H/S/Beyond trailer.

The V/H/S films can be a bit of a mixed bag, which can be said for any anthology franchise, but they are a film studioā€™s dream ā€“ low budget horror which is popular on the home media market.

V/H/S/Beyond, the sixth film in the franchise, comes with a sci-fi twist and the short synopsis for V/H/S/Beyond reads as follows:

Dive into a sci-fi nightmare with six chilling tapes that push the limits of fear.

As per usual, the lot behind the six stories are some of most promising voices in the horror genre. Stork is directed by Jordan Downey from a screenplay by Downey & Kevin Stewart. Fur Babies is written and directed by Christian Long and Justin Long. Live and Let Dive is directed by Justin Martinez from a story by Martinez and Ben Turner, screenplay by Turner. Dream Girl is directed by Virat Pal and written by Pal and Evan Dickson. Stowaway is directed by Kate Siegel and written by Mike Flanagan. There is also a special presentation from Jay Cheel.

The first film, V/H/S, was released in 2012, and you only have to look at the names of some of the talent involved to see why films like this are a brilliant idea for nurturing new filmmakers ā€“ directing duo Radio Silence, who are now among the pre-eminent horror directors working today with several Scream films and the brilliant Ready or Not to their name, Adam Wingard, which is where weā€™ll pause to recommend Youā€™re Next and The Guest, two terrific horror/thrillers directed by Wingard that donā€™t get talked about nearly enough, and Ti West, whose X trilogy is one of the few horrors to really break out into the mainstream in the last few years.

The next few films featured shorts directed by The Raid's Gareth Evans, The Night Comes For Us director Timo Tjahjanto and 41 Metres Down director Johannes Roberts. Needless to say, the franchise has been home to many great directors early on in their career and we have no reason to believe the trend is ending.

V/H/S/Beyond will stream on Shudder from 4th October.
