Parker Posey joins Wild Horse Nine on its Rapa Nui location shoot, due to start next month.

After sweeping up awards nominations galore for 2022ā€™s Banshees Of Inisherin, it seems like Martin McDonagh is sticking to the island-set formula for his next film ā€“ which has just added Thelma and Beau Is Afraid star Parker Posey to its cast.

According to Variety, the film is due to start production next month in Rapa Nui, the indigenous name for Easter Island. The protected Chilean wildlife area is known for being the most remote inhabited island on Earth. Weā€™re sure itā€™s got nicer weather than Inishmore, too.

Posey joins the film alongside Sam Rockwell (who won his Best Supporting Actor gong for his role in McDonaghā€™s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), John Malkovich and Mark Ruffalo, ahead of her debut in season 3 of similarly island-obsessed drama, The White Lotus. Is there a buy-one-get-one-free deal on island location shoots going on?

The project marks McDonaghā€™s third collaboration with Rockwell, following his 2012 dog-napping thriller, Seven Psychopaths, and 2018ā€™s Oscar-dominating Three Billboards. The playwright-turned-screenwriter-turned-director certainly loves putting his characters in isolated locations: 2008ā€™s In Bruges put his Inisherin stars Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson on a quaint Belgian city break, Billboards investigated a miscarriage of justice in a sleepy midwestern town, and Banshees spent longer than youā€™d expect sat outside a pub talking about donkey leavings.

Wild Horse Nine, however, feels like a departure of sorts for McDonagh, who has previously tended towards small-town Irish and American tales. What could he possibly want to do on a remote Chilean island? The logline is remaining tightly under wraps; weā€™ll tell you what it is once someone unwraps it.
