EA Sports FC, the first football game to emerge from Electronic Arts following its FIFA break-up, is said to be out in September.

Update: since the story below was written this morning, yet more potential info has leaked: EA Sports FC 24’s cover star is reportedly Manchester City star Erling Haaland, who’s a kickball star we’re sure you’re all familiar with. Thanks, VGC!

Our original story follows…

Football! Constant, dizzying, 24-hour, year long, endless football. Yes, for anyone awaiting for the next beautiful game from Electronic Arts, there’s (reportedly) good news – EA Sports FC 24 is, according to one prolific data miner, out on 29 September this year.

The brilliantly-named billbil-kun of Dealabs is behind the report (thanks, Eurogamer), and adds that the game will, logically enough, follow the same format as EA’s old FIFA games. There’ll be Standard and Ultimate versions, and purchasers of the latter will get access to the game earlier – so they could be kicking balls around a virtual pitch as early as 22 September.

Elsewhere, data miner Aggniornamenti Lumia (as spotted by Insider Gaming) has revealed that a closed beta build of the game has been added to Microsoft’s internal systems. The miner has also managed to dredge up some file sizes: the Xbox Series X version is 41.57GB, while the Xbox One edition weighs in at 39.23GB. Which is quite interesting if you’re into that sort of thing.

The cumbersomely-named EA Sports FC 24 is Electronic Arts’ first football game since its breakup with FIFA in May last year. The publisher’s decision to walk away from the FIFA brand was seemingly due to a disagreement over licencing costs – a New York Times report said that FIFA was asking for “more than $1 billion for each four-year World Cup cycle.”

FIFA quickly vowed to carry on making games that carried its branding at other studios – EA, for its part, is keen to reassure players that, lack of the FIFA name aside, it’ll be business as usual in EA Sports FC. EA has also said that we’ll hear more official news about EA Sports FC this month, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

“This is where the story of EA Sports FC begins,” Wlodyka said in a somewhat grandiose press release. “We’re building on 30 years of leadership and history creating experiences that bring the global football community together, and continuing to take it into a fan-first future. EA SPORTS FC will be a symbol for the sport, a symbol of innovation and change, and we’re energised to show our fans more about the future in July.”

The football is officially going on forever!
