Amazon looked to have pulled the plug on a Tomb Raider TV series – but the adventures of Lara Croft may now be back on.

It seems that the rumours regarding the demise of Amazon’s Tomb Raider series may have been premature. Back in April, the British tabloids (yes, we know) put out a story suggesting that the project was dead – and there was some degree of supporting evidence to lend credence to that story.

Jennifer Salke – the head of Amazon Studios – had been shepherding the project through production and was now out of a job. Puck's Matthew Belloni – a regular Hollywood source – claimed that Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the series’ showrunner, still hadn’t delivered any scripts. There was also plenty of speculation that Amazon was looking to end its pricey production deal with Waller-Bridge, given that up until this point, none of her projects have come to fruition in the way the studio had hoped for.

However, no official confirmation of Tomb Raider's demise ever appeared, and now a tweet from Geek Vibes Nation on X is ‘eyeing a late July/early August filming start in London.’

It’s a bit thin, but it’s something. No other information is given, but with Game Of Thrones’ Sophie Turner (rumoured to be cast as Lara Croft) recently showing off quite the set of abdominal muscles on social media, perhaps that claim of a shoot beginning next month isn’t just hearsay this time.

This back and forth won’t be new to Tomb Raider fans. On the live action front, things have been achingly slow, with Ben Wheatley’s proposed Tomb Raider movie sequel – set to continue the adventures of Alicia Vikander’s version of Croft – being passed on to Misha Green to helm, before then being scrapped entirely in favour of this TV project which itself has taken years to come together.

On the gaming front, things have been better, with a recent set of remasters of the original 90s games being well received. However, word on a rumoured new major Tomb Raider videogame has been scarce, with last week’s Summer Games Fest coming and going without even a hint of Lara Croft to satisfy fans eager to hear of a new adventure.

Hopefully, the TV show could now be heading towards a summer shoot should this brief report prove to be accurate, meaning we’ll see it at some point next year if so. We’ll bring you more on this one as we hear it.
