Rumours that Elton John biopic Rocketman is being cut back to get a softer rating are jumping the gun, it seems.
A film that’s been in the headlines a fair amount over the past few days has been Rocketman, the biopic of Elton John that’s being directed by Dexter Fletcher (Sunshine On Leith, Eddie The Eagle). Taron Egerton stars as the singer in the movie, and he leads a cast that also includes Richard Madden and Jamie Fox.
Footage was screened from the film for selected journalists at the end of last week, and around the same time, a report in the Daily Mail (yeah, we know) suggested that Paramount Pictures – the studio behind the movie – was pressuring the filmmakers to cut a nude scene between Egerton and Madden. That, following the huge box office success of Bohemian Rhapsody, the studio was looking for a softer 12A/PG-13 rating too.
Well, Fletcher has taken to his Twitter account to address those rumours. And he’s posted the following…
Seeing much speculation about ROCKETMAN!! That’s good! It’s still unfinished so it’s nothing but rumors. It has and always will be the no holds barred, musical fantasy that Paramount and producers passionately support and believe in. See for yourself May 24. Dx x

Elton John has been insistent with the filmmakers that he was happy with an unvarnished take on his story, and to go as R-rated as needed. We have to wait until the end of May before we find out just how it’s all panned out…
