Spongebob Squarepants’ latest movie, in the US at least, will be arriving in March – plus a new trailer has been revealed.

After lengthy delays which should have seen the film arrive in the middle of last year, Paramount has finally named (what we hope will be) a firm release date for The Spongebob Movie: Sponge On The Run. The date, March 4th, will also herald the premiere of the spin-off series, Kamp Koral.

This is one of those odd circumstances though where the US is getting a Hollywood movie that we’ve had elsewhere in the world for months. The movie debuted on Netflix over here in 2020.

If you need your appetite whetting for the film, we have a new trailer to enjoy which you can catch below. The release of The Spongebob Movie: Sponge on the Run is a big deal for Paramount in the US as it will launch its rebranded streaming service, Paramount+. In the US at least, Kamp Koral, the spin-off show, will be a Paramount+ exclusive. No UK release date has yet been announced for that.

The plot will pick up ‘after SpongeBob’s beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to The Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home.’

Sound good? The film will be the first in the series to feature an all-new GCI animation style, whilst Clancy Brown, Keanu Reeves and Matt Berry have all lent their vocal talents to the project, which is directed by Tim Hill.

Here’s the new trailer…
