Trailer lands for British romantic drama, Navy

As film enjoys its world premiere in Birmingham, check out the trailer for acclaimed British film Navy right here. A new film, set in Birmingham, received its world premiere yesterday in the city before its release next month. Navy, by writer-director, Duaine Carma Roberts, has been acclaimed on the festival circuit, winning Best International Feature Film at the Detroit Film Festival, as well as featuring elsewhere. The film focuses on the character of ‘Mason, as he accompanies his childhood friend, Iris, on her debut music tour. In the midst of the fame, he is also dealing with his older brother’s life of crime’, and Roberts told BirminghamLive: “if you’re looking for a film that shows a different part of Birmingham and its young Black people, come and see it. You get a range of emotions and it’s the strongest film I’ve ever made.” Birmingham natives will recognise key parts of the city in the film, but Roberts was keen to get out of the centre of Birmingham, to places like Clent Hills and Cannon Hill Park, stating “we wanted to showcase the greener parts of the area to show as young Black people, not everything we do is focused in the city centre – sometimes we can go to the park and enjoy the sunset.” You can check out the trailer below, ahead of the film’s imminent release online.
