Could the ongoing strike action affect the release of The Marvels? Thereās talk of it as the full trailer arrives.
As it stands, November will mark the release of The Marvels, 2023’s final cinematic instalment in the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe. We’re in July but it’s been a turbulent year already for Marvel Studios. We talked about the troubled release of Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania here, but since then the departure of key executive Victoria Alonso and legal woes of key franchise star Jonathan Majors have added further wrinkles to the studio’s ongoing problems.
However, Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 3 came out in May, doing good business but equally importantly, picking up great critical responses too.
After a rocky period, Marvel Studios seemed to have stopped the rot but there are ongoing external factors which the studio has to contend with as well. The first dual strike in Hollywood since 1960, the ongoing woes of parent company Disney, the ongoing discussions about āsuperhero fatigueā⦠it all adds to the tricky course that Marvel is aiming to navigate.
Most interested parties are looking ahead to the release of The Marvels as a true barometer of Marvel’s fortunes moving forwards, but that November release may not be as certain as we think. Some outlets are reporting that the impact of the actorsā strike may lead Marvel to postpone the film. The Flash's poor box office performance acted as a model for studios looking to see how a tentpole superhero film could perform without being able to leverage its star⦠and it didnāt go well.
As such, several studios are said to be spooked with Warner Bros reportedly considering delaying Dune Part II so it can harness the full marketing power of that filmās impressive cast. Likewise, reports are suggesting that Marvel may do the same with The Marvels.
As it stands though, The Marvels will be released in cinemas on 10th November. Here’s the synopsis and the trailer below:
‘When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani), aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris). Together, this unlikely trio must team up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.’
