After struggling to get several projects up and running, director Judd Apatow is said to have signed up to helm the upcoming project and reverse his recent fortunes.
With films such as Superbad, Pineapple Express and Bridesmaids on his resume as a producer, thereās no debating that Judd Apatow is one of this centuryās finest minds that the comedy genre has given us. However, in recent yearās Apatow has struggled to match the same levels of success that he previously enjoyed, either as a producer or as a director, given that he also helmed really successful comedies such as The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up.
Apatowās last film was 2022ās The Bubble for Netflix, which didnāt exactly set the world alight. The last film he produced that was theatrically released was Nicholas Stollerās Bros, a Universal comedy that failed to make back its $22m production budget by the end of its run in cinemas. However, it looks like Apatowās relationship with Universal has led him to another project, one that he is set to direct.
According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Apatow is set to direct an as-yet untitled project that follows āa couple going through a divorce who travel back in time to their Hawaiian wedding to convince their younger selves not to get married.ā Apatow has been trying to get a few different projects off the ground for a while now, including This Is 50 ā a sequel to 2012ās This Is 40. However, things have been quiet on that front and a potential comedy featuring Zach Galifianakis starring as a “quasi-canceled” comedian has also struggled to get off the ground.
However, with this new project Apatow has another opportunity to helm another studio comedy and heās been busy in the intervening years. He has an upcoming documentary that is focused upon Mel Brooks in the pipeline, aling with several other projects that he is producing. Weāll bring you more on this one ā including a title ā as we hear it.
