Our movie podcast recommendation of the week has something of a sporting theme to it: introducing Field Of Screens.
Sport has the unique ability to bring people together. Whether you’re a player or just an observer, sport can connect people in ways not many things can. The pain of defeat, the joy of winning; a wholly shared experience that is unrivalled to many.
Up to bat for the Film Stories British Podcast league are David and James from
Field of Screens. With James having a Film Studies degree and David a Sports Journalism degree, they make a winning team in the field of podcasting exclusively on films about sport.
The ball was in James’ court when David suggested creating a sports movie podcast last November. Luckily, neither David nor James took his eye off the ball, and inspired by several well-know podcasts they were fans of, the two friends teamed up to create their first episode of
Field of Screens.
You don’t even need to be a huge sports fan (or indeed a huge sports movie fan) to appreciate
Field of Screens. David and James’ conversations feel inclusive and relaxed, and there’s no in-jokes to worry about, either. It’s just two guys who are seriously knowledgeable, having in-depth, impassioned discussion about films set around various sports.
Field of Screens is insightful and engaging, with the perfect mix of news, chat and reviews. Whatās more, it never gets bogged down with too many sporting analogies for those who just enjoy a good film podcast.
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t enjoy a good sporting underdog story, or a true story of overcoming adversity to make it big in the game? It’s easy to be stumped by the vast majority of podcasts out there, but David and James’ hat-trick of knowledge, wit and chemistry is a sure fire podcast slam dunk.
Remember the immortal words of
Dodgeball’s Patches O’Houlihan. The five D’s of Dodgeball: dodge, duck, dip, dive and download
Field of Screens. I believe that’s a direct quote.
