British movie podcast of the week: Talk Filmy To Me

Our weekly part of the site where we recommend an independent film podcast returns, as we invite you to talk filmy.

A lot of podcasts we feature in this weekly slot are inspired by other podcasts they’ve listened to over the years. The big names in podcasting still entice the independents to give podcasting a go, and today’s featured podcast is no exception.

Talk Filmy To Me is the brainchild, and passion project, of Adam Flint and John Crick, friends for about 25 years (Adam stresses that they aren’t that old, they met when they were five!). Adam, who worked in digital project development and John, a music producer with history in podcasting, both wanted to create and emulate the great movie podcasts they loved listening to. That was two-and-a-half years ago, and Talk Filmy To Me now has over 100 episodes of exceptional quality and featuring every genre of film you can think of.

Having a qualified music producer on the podcast, and regularly renting studios in London or using a purpose-built home studio, means episodes sound really well produced and feel like quality audio. One of their proudest moments was when they reached out to Helen O’Hara, co-host of The Empire Film Podcast, and one of the podcasts that first inspired them to create Talk Filmy To Me in the first place. Not only did Helen agree to be on the podcast, but has since featured three times and also features on the recommended episode below.

As they usually concentrate on new cinema releases, COVID-19 has inevitably had a slight impact on their output. They contemplated going on hiatus, but listener demand meant that instead of shutting down for a brief period, they have adapted their show plans in order to focus on new releases on streaming services instead.

And if you can’t help but hear a certain song when you see the name “Talk Filmy To Me”, you’re not the only one…
