Following the recent release of Abigail – Radio Silence will team up with Andy Samberg for a comedy called The Robots Go Crazy.
It’s been around a month since we first covered a story which suggested that the directing duo collectively known as Radio Silence (and individually known as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett) would be embarking on a comedy featuring robots.
Andy Samberg, the star of many a mighty comedy including 2007’s Hot Rod and 2016’s Popstars: Never Stop Never Stopping was also named as its lead, with several studios said to be interested in backing the project.
Well, it looks like Amazon MGM have come out on top, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that the studio has landed the project which will mark the directing duo’s follow-up film to Abigail, their latest horror movie which is still in cinemas at the moment. The project will be called The Robots Go Crazy, and while plot details haven’t yet been released, we know that it’s an action comedy – and honestly, that title is rather telling anyway, wouldn’t you say?

Andrew Lanham, the writer behind Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings is penning the script, and as it stands, we don’t yet know when this one is slated for production. The announcement comes on the heels of Radio Silence publicly stating that they are no longer attached to the remake/reboot/sequel of John Carpenter’s 1981 classic, Escape From New York.
That project would have marked a different direction for the duo – but then again, so will this one. With four horror films now under their belt, rather than retread the same ideas and tropes it will be fun to see them venture into a new genre. Hopefully, with Amazon MGM backing the project, we can look forward to a theatrical release too.
We’ll bring you more on The Robots Go Crazy as we hear it.
