James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown is heading to DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK next month. More here.
Nominated for eight Academy Awards and bringing home no Oscars in the end, the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown will have to content itself with good reviews and a $120m box office haul. Not bad, and it’s the kind of movie that’s set to be rewatched a fair few times in the years ahead.
Directed by James Mangold and starring Timothee Chalamet in the lead role (and at one stage, he looked a fair bet for a Best Actor Oscar), now the awards campaigning is done, Disney is getting on with the business of release A Complete Unknown at home.
Of particular interest to us is the physical media release that’s been confirmed. On 28th April 2025, the film will be arriving in the UK on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
The press materials note some bonus features are being included, albeit with an asterisk suggesting they may be varying by product and retailer. Usual rule of thumb is you’re safe with the Blu-ray or 4K disc.
The extra features are a James Mangold commentary track, and a series of ‘making of’ featurettes. The digital release is 18th March.
For now, we’ll leave you with the synopsis for the film, on the off chance you’ve not heard of it.
New York, 1961. Against the backdrop of a vibrant music scene and tumultuous cultural upheaval, an unknown 19-year-old named Bob Dylan (Timothée Chalamet) from Minnesota arrives in Greenwich Village with his guitar and revolutionary talent, destined to change the course of American music. As he forms his most intimate relationships during his rise to fame, he grows restless with the folk movement and, refusing to be defined, makes a controversial choice that culturally reverberates worldwide. Also starring Edward Norton, Elle Fanning and Monica Barbaro, this snapshot of a pivotal time in contemporary music history is directed by James Mangold from a screenplay by Mangold and Jay Cocks.
A Complete Unknown is now available for order shortly. This post will be update once it’s gone live on assorted etailers.
