Director Eif Rivera is set to make his feature debut with the promising-looking period thriller Killing Castro, starring Al Pacino.
Romulus Entertainment has announced Killing Castro, an exciting-sounding project that boasts an intriguing cast.
The period thriller is set to feature a bevy of exciting names including Al Pacino, Diego Boneta, Xolo Mariduena, KiKi Layne, Alexander Ludwig, Ron Livingston, Kendrick Sampson, Nicole Beharie, Logan Marshall-Green and Titus Welliver.
Based on true events, the film is set in 1960 and ābegins when Fidel Castro travels to New York City to deliver his first speech to the United Nations after having won the Cuban revolution. When met with hostility at his original hotel, Castro meets Malcolm X, who invites him to stay at the famed Hotel Theresa in Harlem. With the eyes of the world watching, a rookie undercover FBI agent originally assigned to investigate Malcolm X suddenly becomes the FBI’s most valuable asset – tasked with keeping Castro from being eliminated by the CIA and the Italian mafia, by any means necessary.ā
Shooting is set to take place in New Jersey, although we arenāt quite sure when.
The project will be helmed by Eif Rivera, director on several TV shows such as BMF and Power Book III: Raising Kanan. Killing Castro will mark Riveraās feature film debut but an acclaimed background in music videos means the filmmaker possesses a strong visual style.
As well as the premise, we have to say weāre intrigued to see Xolo Mariduenaās name in the cast list too. Weāve only seen Mariduena in fun and frothy projects so far such as this yearās Blue Beetle and Netflixās Cobra Kai, so weāre looking forward to seeing the actor take a step into more dramatic fare and work with what looks like a great ensemble cast.
Deadline broke the story but didnāt post any kind of scheduling, so weāre unsure when to expect this one. Weāll let you know more as we hear it.
