Survival horror reboot Alone In The Dark has been delayed once again – this time to March 2024.

There was a time, not so long ago, that survival horror game Alone In The Dark would have gone up against the mighty Alan Wake 2, with both games scheduled for release in the busy month of October 2023.

In the end, that clash of the horror titans – which, would likely have seen Alone In The Dark come second place, if we’re being brutally honest – never happened, with publisher THQ Nordic pushing its game’s release back to January 2024.

Now the game is getting another delay – this time to the 20th March 2024. In a statement shared by Gamespot, THQ Nordic – and developer Pieces Interactive – explained that there’s an honourable reason behind the delay. With Christmas coming up, the studio wanted to avoid putting their staff through the stress of crunching to meet a January deadline.

“With our initially planned release date in January 2024, the Christmas season would have been filled with stress and anything but a jolly time for them,” the studios’ statement reads. “Therefore, THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive have decided to give Alone In The Dark a new release date: March 20, 2024. The well-being of the teams is a top priority, and both companies want to avoid any potential crunch over the Christmas holidays.”

The Alone In The Dark brand is one of the older ones in horror videogames, with the first game to bear the name emerging in 1992. The upcoming reboot has got some star power behind it, though: David Harbour from Stranger Things and Jodie Comer from Killing Eve have been digitised and motion-captured for the lead roles. Not unlike Alan Wake 2, both play characters that the player can choose between as they embark on their shadowy adventure.

Alone In The Dark is in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
