The casting for the long-awaited Alone in the Dark reboot is revealed, along with a release date for later this year.

A reboot of the long-dormant Alone in the Dark series was officially announced last summer, and now we have a release date, along with more information on the cast. The simply titled Alone in the Dark will launch on PC, Xbox Series S/X and PlayStation 5 on 25th October 2023, with an RRP of £49.99/€59.99/$59.99.

Publisher THQ Nordic has also revealed the game’s central casting too.

David Harbour, who plays police officer Jim Hopper in Stranger Things, will take the role of Edward Carnby. Harbour also starred in the movie Hellboy in 2019, and played Red Guardian in the 2021 Marvel film Black Widow, and he will soon be appearing in the upcoming movie based on Sony’s Gran Turismo.

Meanwhile, Jodie Comer, who played Villanelle in the series Killing Eve and starred in the movie Free Guy, will take on the role of Emily Hartwood. Players will be able to choose between using either protagonist on their adventure.

This is actually the third game to be titled Alone in the Dark, reflecting the complicated history of the series.

The initial title came out in 1992, and has been heralded as the first 3D survival horror game, influencing the development of the later Resident Evil franchise. French publisher Infogrames (which later became Atari after buying the name of the Californian company) produced six sequels between 1993 and 2015, including the confusingly titled Alone in the Dark in 2008, which had little to do with the 1992 original, despite the name.

But following the critical panning of the final Atari game, Alone in the Dark: Illumination in 2015, THQ Nordic bought the rights to the franchise and set about creating a full reboot of the series starring original investigators Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood.

This remake is being helmed by Swedish studio Pieces Interactive, and you can play through a free prologue of the new game right now (links for PS5, Xbox and PC can be found at the bottom of the official website).
